The new building for the Gijón/Xixón Municipal Sports Board is conceived as a public edge building within the Las Mestas Sports Complex, capable of bringing together the administrative, medical and logistical uses linked to municipal sports activity within a single volume.

The proposal is based on a precise reading of the existing topography, transforming the slope of the site into an accessible and legible sequence. A lobby-platform acts as a point of orientation and distribution, clearly separating public, internal and logistical circulation routes, and ensuring a functional relationship between the Board’s offices, the Sports Medical Centre and the storage areas.

The envelope is conceived as an active skin of vertical slats that gives the building an institutional identity, controls solar exposure and creates a dynamic image linked to movement and sport. The compactness of the volume, natural lighting, the zoning of building services and the incorporation of high-efficiency systems reinforce a strategy focused on comfort, sustainability and low maintenance.

KNF developed a tender proposal for this project.
